Current Projects
Gamble Creek
Gamble Creek Farm is currently being developed as a working agricultural demonstration site for integrated water resources management in East Manatee County. It will provide an economically-viable model for small scale agriculture while demonstrating an entire Resource Management System (RMS) for maximum sustainability.
Geraldson Community Farm
The Florida West Coast RC&D is currently building a community farm in Northwest Bradenton, Florida called Geraldson Community Farm. Named after its former owners and founders, the Geraldson Family, the farm will soon be in production with a Community Supported Agriculture membership program and activities for the community.
Manatee Agricultural Reuse Supply (MARS) Farm Connection Grant Program
The RC&D received $8.5 million in Federal funding for connecting agricultural users to the reclaimed water transmission line in Manatee County. We are providing technical assistance to agricultural growers, managing the project, and administering the grant program.
FarmLink
The RC&D is developing a pilot program locally called Florida FarmLink to link growers, primarily small growers, to land and resources they need to expand their operations. Since the demand for local food is strong, but the supply is not, this project aims to build capacity in the small farm network and increase the amount of small acreages being used for production. The website has grown to list posting across the United States.
Local Food Buying Club
This is a membership club that brings community members together so they can purchase locally grown or produced products. From free-range meat, gulf caught seafood & eggs to fudge, soap and lip balm the club works with local Florida farmers and small businesses.
